It keeps breaking off during cast/retrieve. What can be done to avoid that from happening? It's great to cast a far distance only to get disappointed when the weight doesn't come back. Tungsten is putatively environment friendly, and all that jazz which is great, but they are $$ too.  Surely I can't be the only one with this issue?

Is the eye of the weight is breaking or is your knot is breaking?  What knot are you tying?  Does the weight have a regular eye or is it one of those clamp down ones?

You need to buy casting dropshot weights.

This is my version of a dropshot. With this setup, the weight doesn't even last a day.

No issue with my knots. It's the clamp down version.

After something like 30 casts, the weight falls off but the bait is fine.

Sounds like you're using the wrong tool for the job. Those crimp eyes are not designed for this application.

Your other free option would be to tie the weights onto the hook.

Or use the tag end of your hook knot to attach the weight

He's not dropshotting, just using that style weight

To me it looks like you are doing a cross between a Tokyo rig and a wacky jig. Try a small Tokyo rig and hook the stick bait wacky maybe?

I do. I just don't care for a traditional dropshot setting as it can really get "messy" after catching a fish or two. 

Used to do this all the time with bell sinkers, but then I bought appropriate tackle, lol.

I do it with a split ring connected to the eye of the hook.

You are simply using those particular weights outside of their intended usage. This is likely leading the wire weakening with each cast to the point where it finally falls off. You are essentially fishing a flick shake rig, and as posted earlier would be better off using the jig heads that are designed for that style.
