Depth finder decision

Featured Replies

I am going to pick up a new lowrance hook reveal x from cabelas (gift cards). Going to take advantage of lowrance rebate. I am set on this after extensive research and playing with diff ones.

-I currently have a lowrance 4hdi black and white that i move between the transom and bow (transducer on transom).

-my time is split beteen 78-300 acre lakes that are mostly trolling motor.
-Is it worth the extra $100 for side imaging on my little boat. Particularly in lakes fishing from the bow.

-at this point im leaning towards placing the reveal on the bow and hdi on the transom with both transducers off the transom. My boat is only 14ft so i should be able to watch the side view idling with the outboard.

-eventually i will get either a 5 or 7 to complement the one I buy now.
thoughts, punch holes in this. I could do 2 5’s as this fits in my budget and sell the hdi? Maybe even a 5 and 7 ss.

I would separate the transducers . Put the new side scan finder in the back and old unit out front with transducer under trolling motor .. You need to be moving in order to get the best detail from side scan and you need to be fairly close to screen to see clearly . Hope this helps.

This is the way Im leaning, Im just feeling like when im on the lakes I fish i wont utilize it as much becouse I spend the larger portion of my time fishing off the bow at the trolling motor. Logically this makes the most sense in the big picture though, especially since i want to spend alot more time on the river

I am not sure specifically on the Lowrance Hook Reveal version, but my Lowrance HDS Carbon says that side imaging works best while going 5 mph. You may be able to slow the refresh rate down, I am not sure.
