Powell power rating

Featured Replies

I was just wondering on your guys opinion with the power rating on powell rods. Mainly want and jig / texas rig rod anywhere from 3/16 - 3/8 . Only asking because i ordered a falcon lowrider head turner 6'10" HF and it is a little too soft for my liking so it is my spinnerbait / chatterbait rod now. Just wondering if powell is similarly rated like falcon or dobyns. And any other rod recommendations are welcome thank you !!

iirc Gary Dobyns got his start with Powell and similarly rates rods. I couldn't imagine what amount to a MH or a MH+ (the softer Falcon Heavy you're describing) being too light for 3/16 to 3/8 oz. To each their own.

Just personally to me it felt a little spongey on the hookset. Sorry i should have explained it better however it loads up amazingly on my moving baits, i love that rod for those applications

I have a Powell Inferno 703C MH X-Fast, it leans more towards the medium side.

I have a Daiwa Tatula 7'1" Medium Heavy X-Fast, it leans more to the heavy side.

Inferno - Texas Rigs

Tatula - Jig-n-Craw

To the best of my knowledge Dobyns started with Lamiglas.
