throttleplate
So the weekend is over and i stayed at home and didnt miss fishing at all. Friday night we went to the local speedway and in the evening at 6:30 pm it was 99 out and it was a great time, even with the wind blowing dirt in our faces but thats what good sunglasses are for even at night. I didnt even start the car up sat or sunday, i didnt look at my fishing gear and didnt have an anxiety attack thinking i was missing out on catching the big one this weekend. What i did was watch a few movies, watered the plants and bushes, worked out, layed in bed and slept, read, looked out the windows at the brown grass, went outside and stared at our garden, stayed away from the refridgerator knowing its not good to eat or snack for me in zombie mode, looked at the clock at midnite thinking wow i should just be pulling into the driveway smelling like fish.
Super User gimruis Posted June 7, 2021 Super User Share Posted June 7, 2021 Most of the week looks hot and dry now too. BARF I remember less than 2 weeks ago we had a good frost. You were complaining that you were waiting for winter to end and spring to begin. Looks like you went directly to summer. 2

Normal summer we average 11 days of 90+ ALL SUMMER. We're gonna beat that before middle of June. 1
sully420
Fishing has been great. Why waste the best Fishing of the year just because it's. A cooler full of ice and plenty of water and the heat is no problem.

For some people - I could drown myself in cold water and still have a good chance of heat exhaustion in the weather we've been having. Some people can handle the heat, other's it's medically inadvisable...I fall into the latter category.

Not known for great fishing but we went later in the day and started fishing at 5 pm and the lake has zero trees and no place to hide from the sun.I didnt melt and i didnt complain and i caught 2 bass and some good fighting pike in direct sunny heat. The heat doesnt bother me but in minnesota last week there were no weeds and pads yet to draw me back out in the heat so we stuck close to home. This weekend no matter the heat we are going as the weeds and pads should have grown up some and make my lakes fish better as they do with more vegetation. On days like that I'm thankful for that little dark cloud that follows me around.

The bass are done with the spawn and they are hungry. Like Ken said though, there's only so much a guy can tolerate. I have a pretty low tolerance for this kind of weather too even if the fishing is bonkers. A guy could guzzle gallons of water while fishing in this and still suffer heat-related health issues. There does appear to be some relief coming. Decent chances of rain and much cooler temperatures are in the 7 - 10 day forecast.

brgbassmaster
I am loving this weather! But I also just got stationed up in ND and came from AZ. Where the last 6 years I fished all summer and it averages like 115 every day in the summer on the lake. Cooler full of water in the boat, food, and once in awhile dip my hat in the lake and all good. We only get like 2 months of open water fishing up here hahahahahah. When it was 110 degrees plus we would jump in to cool off in lake mead as water was nice. When on the colorado river we woud jump in and go into shock as the water is 50 degrees.

Lake Mead is at 1/3 of capacity. Lowest level in 85 years or something.
