Here I am doing some fishing. Catch some on a 1/32 Beetle Spin. Go to make a cast, line and top half of rod go flying out. Whatever, it happens when you do check the "connection" on a 2 piece rod. Then I start reeling. NOTHING, no resistance, no top half of the rod no lure. Look down, I see the line that was formerly the knot. Can't see the top half of the rod anywhere. I guess the only good news is that it was just an Okuma Celilo and didn't cost very much. 

 

I have a $60 budget. Looking for a one piece rod this time and at least 6'. I'm going to be using it for smaller cranks, lipless cranks, Beetle Spins, jigs, etc, etc. What do you guys suggest? Thanks for all the help with my multiple posts. I would just pick something random, but having some input from actual users' experience outweighs any review I could find online. Sorry to hear about your loss. I got to do some surf fishing last week and also forgot to check that connection after chunking some 3oz weights ... top half went flying. Luckily it came back in after what seemed like forever reeling in.

Rub some wax (birthday candle or crayon works well) on the male end before putting rod together and snug tight, won't fly off and it will be easier to take apart. Learned it from the old surf rats.

It was Joe Kennedy Fisher who put in his catalogs and new rod paper to use Gulfwax (paraffin) on plastic ferrules - yes, candle wax works.  

My fly fishing bag carries one of those little quarter-diameter flat candles.  

First thing I do to a new or old rod.

Never realized it helped keep it snug but good to know. I carry a birthday candle to use on fly rod ferrules for ease of removal. 

Thanks I’m gonna try those wax trick with my 4 pieces presso. My only multi pieces rod that the top piece come off sometime when cast. Other than that all my 2 pieces rod are new spigot ferrule that feel and fish like one pieces, never come apart and easy to break loose.

   Look at the Shimano line of rods in your price bracket. They're not fancy, but none of them are bad rods.           jj

Ended up ordering a 13 Fishing Defy Silver. On sale at the local Fleet Farm.
