Local reservoir filled with young trees

Featured Replies

My local reservoir was partially drained for several years where many trees grew in the empty basin. Since it was refilled 2 years ago these trees have remained and are alive. They shade the water under them and I know bass must be hiding in them during the day, but I’m not sure how to fish them as the branches are rather dense and anything I toss (even a weedless senko) in ends up incredibly tangled above or below water. I fish from a kayaks. It’s a reservoir in the northeast. These areas are between 10-20ft deep and the water has about 1-2 feet of visibility. I have limited success fishing shady spots and less densely weeded areas with a Texas rig or topwater popper. Would really appreciate any recommendations on how to approach this issue.

Reservoir would indicate it has a river/creek system correct?

When faced with grass, brush, or timber most anglers want to know how to fish said cover.

Ya don't...ya fish the structure under it!

@Catt, I needed to hear that.  I've been fishing a small 100 acre public fishing area that is ringed with saplings that have died off.

Small reservoirs with a good population , just go fishing . Bass will be in the trees so use lures that will fish the trees well  .Pitch or sidearm your cast as far inside as you can . Or skip lures if you have that skill .

Once I've located "structure", underwater points, creek bends, humps, ridges, or whatever is available.

Next I look at the trees, little clusters, individual trees, the biggest, any leaners.

The structure is the cake, the cover is the icing!
