Daiwa Tatula CT

Featured Replies

I recently purchased a couple Daiwa Tatula CT's 7.4:1 ratio. I have noticed the last couple times out that when reeling under a load, it seems tough to reel, lots of resistance. When using a lure with a lot of resistance like a spinner bait or a chatter bait it just seems like it's not smooth and takes a lot of effort to turn the handle, not to mention when I have a fish on. I'm relatively new to the baitcasting world, maybe that's what you get with a $130 reel?

Any thoughts or help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You definitely shouldn't be experiencing this unless you're reel has problems. Now I'm not saying it's daiwa or you personally but if you have multiple reels doing the same thing it kind of points to something your doing. Maybe you bent the spool, maybe you did something to wear the gears out. I can tell you that any daiwa you pick in the tatula series should give you years of use even without proper maintenance you shouldn't be experiencing this.

The CTS are great, I have a ctR and it's one of my favorite reels to date and I've got DC reels, curados, Lew's, zillions. I used to be a Shimano only guy until daiwa started stepping they're game up.

But, you might also just be over thinking the resistance the lure you choose has. If you upload a video im sure we can key in on what your talking about. Does it happen when you use say a heavier Texas rig? That should cut through the water pretty easy.

One thing I do to All my reels, which are 95 % Diawa, is to add a drop of reel oil to the spool bearings. Some reels come from the factory kinda dry. None of my CT's or type R's have any issues.

The ctR is daiwas version of the curado e series lol. I missed out on an opportunity to buy more but I'm glad I got the one. It's out for the season tho, I gotta clean it. My Lew's tournament slp has been getting some use as a beater.

I am glad I gave up the whole fan boy thing. There are good reels to be had from Shimano, daiwa, Lew's, Abu, 13.

I oiled both of my CT100H reels after I got them.  They were a lot smoother after that.

Usually this means something isn’t seated right (possibly from the drag being backed off too much) or a bearing is not lying flat. If you don’t know how to reassemble a reel, getting the help of someone who does will almost certainly have it working better than ever.
