Snagged this in a local stream, any idea what it is, initially thought shad but no shad dot?

Looks more like one of the Shiner species.

After consulting google, with a little help from @MN Fisher, it seems to be a Blue Shiner.image.jpeg.ada19bbca5c3fcc2dca75bbf172a50ba.jpeg

If I walked into one of the local bait shops and asked for a dozen medium shiners that's what they would dump into the bait bucket.  Most likely a common shiner.

@Bdnoble84, I'm assuming you are fishing in your location "Northern Illinois?"

It also contains range maps for most of the minnows listed so you can check if they are within the area you were fishing.
