advice on this (my first) jon boat

Featured Replies

I found a this boat for sale, its 300.00. what kinds of things should i ask about it when i go to look it over?

via phone call, the owner said that the front has been reenforced. the motors are 27#thrust, and 3hp minnkota. no leaks. thanks.

I would ask why he reinforced the front. you should also check for leaks. It needs a paint job, but that's not too hard.

Honestly save your money and look for something nicer. Those Trolling Motors although they work are very old and you will have trouble finding parts for them if something should happen to break on them. Also the boat doesn't look to be in very good shape. Keeping looking and you will find a good deal.

i've been shopping around (craigslist and such). after reading lowbudgethooker's  jon boat restore, it made me want to give it a go. maybe i should rehab my canoe instead....

See how long the post has been there on CL.

You should be able to talk him down at least $100, if not walk. Literally, walk. If he wants to sell it, he will sell it for $200. I wouldnt spend anymore than $200 for that.

NO! Don't walk..

good call. i'm still looking around. the "reenforced" front sounds like bad news. It has such a nice paint job though..... :(

lol. It is tough to walk away. I know. You are just itching to get a boat and get out on the water. Sort of like picking out a woman though, whatever one you pick you are gonna spend a lot of time with her, and she is gonna cost you a LOT of money so make sure she is worth it. LOL.

now i'm thinking a kayak set up for fishing might be better for me. i can throw it in the bed of my colorado. my canoe is just too big for that.

a jon boat will have to wait. its funny about it being like a woman. my fiance wants me to buy 2 kayaks or none!  ;D
