Making Buzz Baits ?

Featured Replies

Who makes their own buzz baits and what are good sources of buzz bait essential supplies ? ... While there are a lot of store bought good buzz baits on the market - I am specifically looking to make a 1/4 oz. buzz bait with a up sized blade normally found on  3/8th oz. buzz bait so I can creep that 1/4 oz. buzz bait on the surface slower in cooler weather . That type of buzz bait modification just isn't found in stores . Colors would be black , white and maybe white / chartreuse ... Thanks in advance !

I don't make any, but Janns Netcraft is a good source for all things lure-making.

Thanks - now to become educated on the different blade shapes / cups , wire gauges (although probably less important that for spinner baits ) . the actual head , keeper and then the hook . Skirts good for early spring then again in late fall with a  soft plastic trailer the rest of the time .

We have a local shop which has components that I can get when I want to make them.

The Cavitron is the buzzbait you want. It's the best off the shelf buzzbait there is for crawling slowly.

I make my own 3/8 and 1/2 . I use the 3/8 with a paddle tail swim bait no skirt . The swim bait creates enough drag that I can crawl it along pretty slowly . It also adds weight so it  cast   great . Mine is a Do It mold . It dos not have a 1/4 ounce cavity .

It was a used swimbait  , so I cut the tore up nose off. It didnt quite fit the head but  it makes no difference .
