Downriggers on a Bass boat

Featured Replies

How sacrilegious is it to put a downrigger on a bass boat?

Down riggers = Trolling.

Maybe put a quick release device on the end of a Power Pole so no one notices.?

What would make it sacrilegious? I had a couple of them on my boat for land locked stripers and Great Lakes salmon.

Nothing wrong with multi purpose for a boat. I’ve seen bass boats on Ontario trolling for brown trout.

It would definitely depend on the boat. I’d have no problem doing it if the boat trolled properly, but I know my old triton you’d never be able to downrig with. At idle speed it was way too fast, and tracked all over the place just trying to go straight. It only liked trolling motor speed, or real fast ?. My Lund Pro-V and my Smokercraft on the other hand, perfect trolling rigs.

If I spent $60K on a bass boat I'd use it however I wanted. Put a freakin ski tow bar and a bimini top on there if you want. They're probably angry because they didn't have the "guts" to do it themselves.

Back in the 90’s at lake Castaic during the million dollar award for world record bass there was every type of boat on the lake. I recall a Jon boat with 4 down riggers trolling swimbaits and thought if the wind comes up it will sink. What a zoo!
