Water temperatures is what man watches, bass ain't got no watch.

 

Until the eggs are fully developed the female will not lay her eggs regardless of water temperatures.

 

No long after post spawn bass start developing eggs for the next spawn.

 

This was me on Saturday.  I'm not looking forward to the winter.  Hoping I can squeeze a couple more bass outings before Thanksgiving.

Ice fishing was a long time ago for me and I only had a swedish spoon

but that thing poked a bunch of holes all over northeast ohio for about 20 years

24V Lithium power auger is a pretty nice upgrade

 

Florida has a very long bass spawning season.  Some people believe Florida bass can spawn year round.  I have fished bass on beds from December until June.  This has much to do with the weather.  Here in Florida, you may be swimming in your pool on Christmas Day or huddling around a heater.  As stated above, not all bass spawn at the same time.  It never occurred to me that they may spawn twice or more.   Interesting.

I’m one who always believed and are convinced that bass down here will spawn more than once. 
 

I’ve been told by folks who’ve lived here all there lives and are some of the best anglers I’ve ever known, that bass will spawn every month of the year. 
 

In the 40+ years I’ve fished down here (admittedly more on Okeechobee than anywhere else) I’ve personally never caught or seen a bass with eggs caught from July to September but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any. 

Mostly from October through June.

Solid.  Lithium augers are unreal.  You can't even give away gas augers anymore.   I have not built an ice rod yet.  Those will be awesome.  There is not nearly as many choices in ice rods so it is nice to make what you want.  What blanks did you build on?

One was a light power carbon blank from MHX, one was a noodle from Basskhang.com, and the other was the top half of an old Zebco two piece crappie rod that has an extremely light tip.  The bottom part of the rod broke, so I took the top piece and added a handle, hook keeper, and another guide.  It should be a great deadstick rod.  The action is pretty slow so I'm not sure if it will be a great jigger.

Top section of a a trout flyrod does nicely. Local sport shop had a guy do shorties for the ice guys. Cut & finish the reel section with the old left over butt section.  $ 15 . LOOONG time ago. Those were the days.  ?

That is AWESOME.   I have a St. Croix 9'6" crappie rod that broke before I could even use it.  It was in the boat and was rubbing on a latch the whole 5 hour drive.  Wore the area out and it broke right there.  I don't turn in warranty when it is my fault to I am going to try the ice rod thing you did.  I have moved to more noodle rods for panfish and want to build one.  If you would, report back once we get on the ice.  I would love to hear how you like those blanks.  I may copy them if you like them.
