G. Loomis Rods

Featured Replies

Brand new to the G Loomis rods. I just picked up the GCX 822s DSR and the 852s JWR. Looking to add a few more from the line up. Have a limited budget so I have to stay with the GCX line. I was looking to get the 812c SBR as I love to throw 3/8oz spinnerbaits. After this one, what would everyone suggest next and what would you use it for? If a little more info is needed, what I like to throw and what rod I currently use is listed below.

Lew's Custom Speed 7' Med Mod Fast - 3/8oz stealth blade/jerk baits/wiggle wart style baits

St Croix Bass X 7'1 MH F - 1/2oz jack hammer/ 3/8oz spinnerbait

13 Fishing Omen Black 3 7'3 MH F - all 1/2oz jigs including swim jigs and football jigs/t-rigs

13 Fishing Omen Black 2 7'3 MH F - Lipless/Squarebill

Lew's TP1X 7'3 Heavy Fast - A-rigs/6'' Magdraft/frogs (this I use 50# braid as main line and then will add leader for a-rigs and magdraft)

As yall can see, I have a bunch of different rods that dont match and not used in the proper manner. This is no where near all the rods I have, but these are the ones that are mainly on my deck at all times. These are the ones I am looking to replace right away. Appreciate the help with this! Thank you!

Welcome to BR!!

I just got my first GLoomis rod, a used Conquest 904c, to be my jig rod.  So I don't have any real world experience, but it looks like your post got buried.  From what I've read here or heard from others in general, I would think the 2 power would be a little light for a 3/8oz spinnerbait.  Personally, I'd look at the GCX 843MBR if you want to stay in that rod line up.  My very limited experience with the MBR's is very positive, the 4 feels really light and responsive in the tip and moves into power very smoothly.  It should be a very versatile rod, but it does line up as slightly redundant with the rest of what you're throwing.

To quote the above, I have an GLX 843MBR and I love it, I think that 3/8oz spinnerbait would work very well on that rod. I'm sure there's a better rod more dedicated to a spinnerbait, but that 843MBR is really universal. I enjoyed fishing with it so much, I bought an 844MBR as well.

I prefer my 843s to my 844s for spinnerbaits and I only fish 1/2 oz.

I’d get a 843c MBR in the best Loomis line you can afford. It will handle most baits in it’s weight range excellently.

the 852JWR is one of my all time favorite rods, you will love it

Thank you all for your responses. I will definitely be looking at the MBR rods. I have heard they are a really well versatile rod. Also, I appreciate the heads up on the spinnerbait rod as well. When I picked it up, I thought it was a little light but since it stated it was a spinnerbait rod, that it would work really well.

Thanks!!

I have the MBR 903C in E6X version and i really like the extra length. I would consider the GCX version for spinnerbaits and general purpose, and perhaps the 844 for the heavier stuff.

I have been using my Loomis glx843 for spinner baits for years and love it. I have no desire to experiment with other rods for that technique.
