Curado 150 DC or 70 MGL for Jerkbaits

Featured Replies

Gonna get a new left-handed baitcaster primarily for jerkbaits.  110s, Staycees 90s, Reranges, ect...  I love the 70 MGL but I have only used it for dropshots and finesse swimbaits.  Would you bump up to the 150 for 1/2 oz jerkbaits?  I am most concerned with casting distance and casting into the wind.  Any opinions are appreciated.

Old Curado 70 can handle everything from finesse to power. I use mind from Ned rig all the way to frog and 1oz topwater. Your 70MGL should be fine unless you want more line capacity. The 70 MGL even better than 70 for that it comes with main shaft support bearing, and MGL spool should be able to handle casting into wind better.

On the other hand 150DC is not a bad reel either and should get the job done if you fish a lot in windy or bomb cast 1/2oz spinnerbait. The only drawback are weight and size, unless you don’t mind. I think you will get more distance from MGL than DC reel for those jerkbait.

I use the 71 mgl for big jerkbaits , I absolutely love it, you won't have any problems.

I have a 71 MGL and use it specifically for jerkbaits including the 1/2 oz. variety.  I love it.  Casting is great as is the palming.  Perhaps you should consider a BFS for what you are using you 70 MGL for now.  I have no experience with BFS reels, but they seem to be all the rage.

Either one would be fine.

Personally I use the Curado DC.  I often find that jerkbaits can be tricky in the wind and the DC reel helps to get a little extra distance compared to some other reels.  The size compared to a 70 size reel is no big deal to me.

I use the OG curado 70 for JB's and it does just fine. I haven't tried my 70 MGL for them, but I assume it would do great. I wasn't a huge fan of the DC though.

Interesting.  I thought most would say the 150.  I'll give the 70 MGL a workout with a jerk and see what I think.  As a Daiwa guy, I have been surprised with how much I like the 70 MGL.  I have too many issues with the T-Wing and an FG Knot getting hung up so I went with the Curado for the round line guide and it has been flawless this year.
