I got away from the Christmas leftovers and got out walking and hit some ponds. In two ponds, I saw small bass (10-12 inches) chasing small fry. We've had some unseasonably warm weather but the water is still cold. What fish spawn in early Winter? I've just never seen this before that I can remember.

Those are probably mosquito fish. In a normal winter, they wouldn't be active near shore this time of year.

I’ve been seeing schools of bait shallow in water in the low 40s. Different ponds to. Probably banded killifish or small perch.  I’m in MA

I saw a bunch of mosquito fish on the shore this weekend. I've never seen them this time of year. 

Trout and salmon spawn in the fall. But I’m not sure when they hatch and they spawn in the rivers
