Rod locker and other security issues.....

Featured Replies

Hey all...

As I loaded my boat today for the first T of the season, I realized in addition to having TOO MUCH stuff, I also have some valuable stuff. I was wondering what most of you use to keep your rod lockers and other storage areas secure. The "locks" that came with my boat are chinchy at best, and I looked into Lockr Bar and they seem a bit expensive.

Any advice would be appreciated!!

Thanks,

Alan (bassnajr) ;)

You may want to consider upgrading your locks to something better.  New locks are around $35 each and pretty easy to install.  Another option is to take some of the more expensive stuff out of your boat.  My boat came with an alarm for the compartments....I guess that is another option too.

Hey Alan, I was considering the Lock R Bar for my new Stratos. Did some research and found too many stories of thieves just prying them out of the gunwales, thus doing more damage to the top cap.  ;)

I came to the same "realization" a couple months ago while getting ready for a trip to Florida. I saw an article in Bassmaster (page 12 Feb 2010) about an alarm system for boats. I ordered one and , to date, haven't installed it. I guess I'm not as concerned now that I'm back home in my driveway.

Anyway, I paid$200 bucks and will give you a hell of a deal if you want it. Its called a Sisson Two Way Alarm System if you want to look it up.

That's what I thought Matt....

If they want it...they'll get!! I'll just put a few "good" locks on the rod lockers and main storage.

Hope to see you around this year!!!! :)

One thing I'm considering is the Minn Kota quick release bracket. Would feel better about the $700 Maxxum sitting in the garage while I'm at work...

Nitro 882, how much do you want for the alarm system?

When it's not in my garage, I lock everything AND put the cover on - tight!  If any of you have a Ranger that's less than 10 years old, you know that cover is a little "odd" to put on and off, since the way you secure it to the boat isn't common. It's also impossible to get "under" when it's on tight. I figure that's enough of a deterrent for any thief looking for an easy target.

a little "ODD" Glen?  I looked like a cat with a ball of yarn, first time i put cover on my Ranger....lol

I'm sure we can come up with some shotgun booby traps...  8-)

could anyone post a link to a "good lock" i broke one of the perko locks on one of my comparments so its permanently stuck unlocked (it was stuck locked was able to break it to get it stuck unlocked shows how easy it is to get past some of these locks)...figure its time to replace all 5 of my lockable storage compartments
