Is a Shimano Ci4 1000 reel ok for Bass fishing. If so a good rod to pair it with.

Hey guys, I have a Shimano Ci4 1000 reel that I originally bought for trout fishing and I was wondering if I could use it for double duty for bass as well?

I would also like your guys opinions on choosing a rod to go with the reel?  Willing to spend $300 max, however I would like to spend less.

It’s definitely fine, many people use 1000 size reels for bass. It will pair up nicely with a ML rod. But what techniques will you be throwing on this setup? I think that factor is what should be considered when selecting a rod, not the reel you have for it.

I was thinking ultra light finesse, drop shot, wacky, ned, neko, smalll swimbaits, etc...

In that case a ML is fine, I like something around 7’0. I like St Croix’s stuff, specifically the 6’10 ML/XF. They make it in most of their series; Mojo Bass, Victory, Legend Tournament, Avid and even higher end.

The shimano zodias would be a great match for this reel.

As long as you keep the line used under .009D the 1000 size Stradic is a god bass reel. Use 5 lb Maxima Ultra Green with a Stradic 1000 for drop shot, slip shot, dart jig and Ned jigs with ML or Medium fast quality rods

I don’t see nothing wrong with 1000 size. I also use 1000/2000 for bass. I use 10lb braid/super line. I pair mind with M/F rod Daiwa Tatula and Major craft nano ace which should cover all the techniques you listed.

What Zodias would be better - 6'9" Med Lt or the 7' Med Lt

I only have the 7' med light Zodias and it's a good rod for lighter lures. I do have the 6'10" expride med light, but not sure how it compares to the Zodias in similar length.

The actions of both my rods are similar and can use the same lures. It's a matter of if you want a longer or shorter rod.
