Reel cleaning

A while ago I started a thread about how often people disassemble and clean their reels. I haven’t done this in a few seasons and a couple of my reels were showing signs of stress. I took 5 of them into Wayzata Bait & Tackle 3 weeks ago for complete disassembly, cleaning, and lubrication.

I picked them up today and I have to say, these things look like they’re brand new again. All 5 of them are at least a decade old, some more than that. They’re smooth as butter just like they were the day I bought them. Needless to say I’ll be going back there to have this service done again. Fantastic job by this shop at a reasonable price, in a timely manner.

There's a reason they're still in business as a 'mom and pop' shop...good service, decent prices, friendly staff.

They've been there at least as long as I've lived out here....almost 36 years now.

ED: I looked it up...been in business since 1975.

I don’t usually go there unless I need a service like this done or I am going crappie fishing in the spring and I need minnows.

The line for live bait today there was out there door. Whole lotta people going ice fishing. Luckily I can just go to the back of the store where the reel shop is to get my reels otherwise I would have waited a while.

Ya - only reason I stop in is for panfish lures...they mainly cater to panfish/walleye/pike people. My minnows I get just down the road from me. The BP station on Shoreline (15) and Interlachen has actual tanks, not like the other convenience stores that keep them in bags.

That’s good to know gimruis, I am still going to try to learn how to do this myself, but I like having something I can drive to and get this done appropriately.  Thanks.
