Bank Fishing In Rio Vista?

Recommended Posts

I will be working two days in Rio Vista next week, wondering if anyone knows a few spots for bank fishing.

Stripers or bass, well known spots or not. I just want to get a line wet for the first time this year. Looking for shore access.

@schplurg, there’s a public pier near the Rio Vista bridge to wet a line. I’ve fished over there once, and I think it’s was roughly this time of year. We dropped the boat in at the Rio Vista public ramp and ran up to Liberty Island. Mayberry Slough would be the ideal place, but it’s pretty much off limits.

Thanks guys.

I checked a map and realized how close I was to so many boat launches too - for future kayak trips. All kinds of familiar marinas and areas I went to as a kid.

Turns out I'm not going after all but I will be going there soon, probably repeatedly. I saw the ramp right there in Rio Vista on google maps too. There's a street view shot right at the top of the ramp.

Hwy 12 crosses Sacramento River over the Rio Vista bridge.

Years ago I caught a 34lb Striper LM bass fishing  at the bridge on a black hair jig w/9” UJ black widow eel pork rind. Lots of current as I recall and ships, not a good kayak place to fish.

Sooo many Delta bass in the sloughs to target in that area.

Be safe,

Tom

Ya the main river looks a little big for me, plus too far to pedal to any of the smaller areas from there I noticed. I'm still new to yakking so I stick to tighter areas...so far Mossdale, and area I'm familiar with.

Striper fishing right now should be good!
