football jig

Featured Replies

I have a 7'0'' heavy but it has 20lb fluro line on it and read that you lose a lot of feeling with it and need around 12-16lb

I also have a ags 7'0" med-mh daiwa tatula rod but I think that would be just to light it is loaded with 16lb line

anyways what would you recommend, for the setup?

how heavy of a jig are you looking to throw? i'd go with a medium heavy to heavy rod depending on the weight of the jig and the rod manufacturer, paired with 15-17 pound fluorocarbon. i'd also look into a tungsten football head for added sensitivity. beast coast fishing makes a few tungsten football head jigs specifically for this.

I throw mine on a 7'4" Heavy with 17# fluoro, but I am no expert!

3/8 and 1/2 footballs I toss on a 7' MH/F rod with 15# Tatsu. If I'm tossing 3/4oz...that's on a 7' H/F with 40#832 and maybe an AbrazX leader in 20# depending on water clarity...stained/plankton heavy I dispense with the leader.

You don’t need line over .014 dia mono, Copolymer or FC fishing football jigs. If you are casting a football into cover it’s the wrong shape jig imo. Foot ball jig is designed to keep the hook upright with a longer hook in lieu of a shorter compact jig that goes through cover a lot better.
