E6x inshore feedback

Featured Replies

I want to get a spinning rod for inshore to pair with my Stradic 3000, and I am torn between the E6X inshore 842S MF and the 843S MF. I understand these rods are more moderate than the freshwater counterparts, which I like for the added Versatility.

The 842 is listed as a medium light, and the 843 as a medium. Typically I would think of an 842 as a medium, and 843 as a medium heavy, so I am not sure what I want here. I want to target snook, redfish, sea trout and maybe jacks in the gulf coast of Florida.

Does anyone have experience with these e6x inshore models? I know the regular E6x was seen as kind of overpriced by some, but I have heard great reviews about this saltwater line.

I had a 7’6” Medium that was an extra fast. Rated for 1/4-5/8 I think. I used it for many years for trout and redfish and loved it. In my opinion it was definitely not an extra fast tip but it made it very versatile. Used it for topwaters, plastics, and popping corks.

Not sure what the model number was though.

I think you’d be happy with it depending on the size of the fish. I caught redfish up to 32” on it but that was the biggest fish. If you’re talking 40” snook and huge jacks that’s not the rod for it, although I assume you would be getting a bigger rod if that was your intended target. Might want to compare the specs I had to what you’re looking at - if they match I would highly recommend the rod I had for what you’re wanting.

Thanks!  I saw the ML recommended somewhere but I cant get behind the idea of it for saltwater fishing.  The 76 may be too long, but it sounds like the medium power will be a good fit.  I'd imagine. most of the fish would be in the 15-25ish inch range.

I've had my eye on the 6'6" E6X Inshore for a while with the intent on using it for redfish in the Gulf Coast marsh.  Not bulls, of course.  The only reason I haven't bought one yet is I'm trying to avoid the full grip handle, which is the only option on the E6X.  I'm also considering the Loomis Greenwater series.

In open water, you’d be able to handle fish of that size on the ML.  But if you’ve got docks or mangroves to compete with, step up to the M.  Then again, the weight of your lure comes into play of course.

I’ve never used the E6X but I can say that the St Croix Avid Inshore also warrants a look.  Mine have tamed many reds, trout, flounder, etc on both the FL Panhandle and the SC Lowcountry
