JDM vs USDM reel gearing

On the Shimano Japan site it states the Metanium has "Furthermore, while maintaining its light weight and weight, it is equipped with an ultra-high-strength brass drive gear to improve its toughness."  ( had to use google translate)     I have some JDM Bantams that I use for heavy punching , I think they have brass gears as well, or I would of stripped them  a while ago.

I think it was more in reference to the Diawa Zillion.  The USDM version uses aluminum, the JDM version uses brass.

Edit:  @MiceNReets correctly pointed out that I had the gear type by market reversed.

You are correct, I got caught up in JDM and USDM gearing differences without realizing they were specifically referring to the Zillion.

He just referenced it backwards. The JDM zillion has a duralumin main gear + pinion. The USDM zillion has a Brass main gear and duralumin pinion.

My bad, it is.  Glad you pointed it out.  I’ll add an edited correction, so I don’t confuse.

Yes, just the Zillion. I was going to use it on a frog set up in heavy slop. Would rather have brass gears for that, so I got the Metanium.

A lot of the Daiwa reels aren't Japan manufacture even if purchased from some of the "JDM" sites. The Zillion SV TW is, but the Alphas SV TW and Tatulas are Thailand reels, even through sites like Digitaka.

As a side note, I wonder if reels purchased from Japan sites will qualify for the "Tatula Promo" for the Simms Hoodie?

I'm gonna find out on the "Tatula Promo" I mailed my labels out a couple weeks ago. ?

I called.

The woman said "it has to be bought in the US, because it has to be a product available in the US".

I said, it's just a Tatula 100. I'll just be ordering it from an international site.

After a pause, she said "That doesn't qualify".

When I asked why, she said "it's in the rules on the form"..... I looked it over, and I sure can't find it.

So idk. Didn't get a real concrete answer.

I kind of feel like they may not notice, and just process it if you send it in.

The promo is probably being paid for by Daiwa USA so it makes sense that they would decline grey market sales for which they never profited from.  Same thing with warranty expense.  Paying for promotions, warranty, and support for products you didn't sell is a sure way to lose money.

I received email confirmation of my 2 Daiwa Tatula reels for the Daiwa/Simms promo today.

Were those USDM or JDM reels?
