5gm is closer to 1/8oz or 5/16oz?

Featured Replies

I'm not that well versed with gram weights. Not sure if 5gm is considered ultralight or light lure weight. Also 15gm is similar to 1/2oz?

All the old potheads know that there are 28 grams in one ounce.

Just go from there.

I remember when a nickel bag was 5 bucks, and you could roll 5 fatties or 7 skinnies from it...

And it would take all 5 lol.

Here is another site where you can use ounces in fractions:

Also, I copied and pasted a chart I have saved as a note in my phone for quick reference.  The gram numbers are rounded to the nearest 10th.

I use DuckDuckGo! as my browser's search engine and if you type in any units of measurement like as "grams to ounces" a converter comes up immediately, as well as links to many conversion web pages.

To answer the OP’s question, no 5 mg isn’t considered ultra light lure weight. 1 mg to 3 mg is ultra light in my book.

I think people were answering the question that is the title of the post:

We're casting fentanyl now, are we?...

5 grams of fentanyl would probably kill every bass in the lake!  I think anesthesiologists use something like 10 micrograms to knock you out...

He was answering OP question alright, just an old fingers that type “mg” instead of grams. OP asked if 5 gram is considered as UL or light lure.
I use different method 2grams ~1/16oz, 4~1/8, 8~1/4oz or I just ask “Siri”

I think folks knew what he meant…I’ve done that many times.  It was more about the question.  The OP actually asked 2 questions: one was the title of the post and the second was in the body of the post.  I think a lot of the early answers were focused on the title question.

I agree…you can certainly use a more simplified method if you choose.  Because there are so many off sizes today and I make a lot of my own stuff, I like a little more specificity.  Just like everything else in fishing, it’s a preference thing.  As far as Siri, we have agreed to go our separate ways.

Ok, so if 1 gm= 1/28.3th oz, how much fat is in a Royal with cheese? Extra credit for calculating kilo calories. Show all work, partial credit given, no penalty for guessing, begin...

No clue ... I hurt my brain from thinking about it.

LOL

"No respect I tell ya, no respect, my wife's been eating a lot of burgers lately, last night I turned into the driveway and hit her with the car, she said why didn't you drive around? I told her I was low on gas, didn't think I would make it"...

Exactly why the fishing industry should adopt the metric system. What weighs more 5/8 or 11/16? I need a chart for this? Crazy. Let's try this what weighs more 6g or 7g? Simple.

As a person who grew up in the trades and reading a tape measure, this comes easy for me. I totally understand your point and respect it, but the metric system is a new language for a lot of folks. Your example is an easy one as far as weight of lures go, but now you gotta match your metric lure to imperial rod? :Idontknow:

Should we just pull the band aid off and just universally convert to the metric system? again, :Idontknow:? I say we should.

Beside that a lot of companies here either order the weight or mold from China which category by grams anyway no need to convert. For example a lot of 1/32oz jig head is actually 1/24oz.

Jig weights vary greatly from package weight, usually heavier not lighter. Reason the jig head weight only includes the lead or tungsten weight without the hook. Same with spinner baits don’t include all the hardware and blades.

When you get down to fractions of grams or weighing in 1/32 oz /.0886 gram increments it becomes a academic study going down a rabbit hole.
