Santone Lures - Got Five! Spinnerbait

Featured Replies

Hey ya’ll

Alas, the Nichols pulsator single Colorado’s are gone. Compact size, quality components, amazing selection, perhaps nothing can match them. I have some still but they are old and many are worn. But wait… I spy a new contender. On santone’s website, they offer a Got Five! Spinnerbait. Little guy. Very light wire and a 3/0 hook. Good components, good looking head design. And what’s more, they offer it in a single colorado. Only question I have is how big is the colorado.

As if I don’t already have enough spinnerbaits.

I used them for a while.  Decided they were a little too fragile.

What equipment were you using to throw them? Line, rod, drag. Just trying to gauge how fragile they may be for me. I might decide to throw them on lighter tackle but I’m curious what you have to say

Equipment wasn't an issue... pike, drum, walleye and smallmouth were the issue.

Here is what I would do, grab the spinnerbait you like and then head somewhere that stocks a bunch of them. Hold yours up to the ones on the racks until you find one or some that match the weight and head to bend distance, and are as long or longer to the swivel (don't worry about the blades or color) grab a couple of those and put them in your basket. Head to the blades isle, and match the blade(s) on yours with the ones on the pegs, when you find some, put those in your cart, repeat with the skirt isle. Now head home and get a pair of needle nose (or round nose or bailing pliers if you are feeling fancy) and paint by numbers.

Great suggestion, thanks!

Welcome. Spinnerbaits are all about the weight, dimensions, and blades, so they are easy to duplicate or modify. Most of the ones I fish are frankenbaits, I hardly ever fish any stock. If I could, I would only fish spinnerbaits and poppers, so I've tried pretty much every combination possible.

Which of those are you willing to share photos of? Or is that top secret? ?

Dangit man!

I appreciate help you've given nonetheless. If I must go through the long process of finding special spinnerbaits myself, I will do it. I'm convinced that the frame of the Nichols works really well with single colorados at least.

Snakeheads can make a lot of spinnerbaits single use.

This bait is a tad larger than the Pulsator, but with the short arm it does seem smaller. It also is very good. Just another possible option for you:

Yup I like those. Been throwing them more and more. Really unique bait.

By the way... I made that post on skipping a spinnerbait and you were on it saying you were interested as well... well this spinnerbait I think could be a good candidate for skipping with a swimbait. What do you think?

I think so. I'd trim the weed guard (kinda pointless on this bait anyway) and add a smooth body trailer like the Largo Shad. I have some of these baits and if the opportunity presents itself this week I will be giving it a go.

Take measurements from the bait and you can make your own. Assuming its a bullet head? The two things you need to know are wire and hook sizes.  Wire measure the lengths from the Rbend and diameter. My guess is its R2 or 3, .040 wire based on what I remember about Nichols.  Hook most likely is a Mustad 32608 4/0 nickel. Post a picture and I can probably tell you all the components by looking at it.

Is this the bait you are talking about? I really disagree with not having two split rings on the swivel.

Look here for the spinnerbait heads that are similar.
