Please Explain RI Vixen Topwaters

Featured Replies

I believe these were the jam before I got serious about bass fishing.

Why are they so expensive now in the secondary market?

Why haven’t they been cloned by every other brand like most successful baits?

What did I miss a couple years ago?

The Teckel Kicknocker I believe is essentially the same bait, but RI stopped making them.

What is the draw then for the older baits? Just limited quantities? I’d never throw a $100 topwater.

The R.I. vixen is still available on TW, the RI Rover is the next generation. What made this lure different is the hook hangers are perpendicular in lieu of being inline with the lure body.

The rotated hook hangers allows the lure to walk back and forth 180 degrees.

I have some of the older originals , they had a very unique knock that I believe was pretty unique at the time. I have not tried some of the others like the Teckel so I won't comment on those , I do know I've had some great days with this bait and it has produced some memorable strikes. I've tried quite a few other baits and it still remains my go to in this lure category.

I think this thread was originated by the Bait Monkey, as now I want one.

@Primus, I did some reading and it sounds (no pun intended) like most have commented on the sound difference between the original Vixens and the current ones. Whether that makes a difference to a bass is hard to say, but many seem to feel that the originals had a truly unique sound.

I couldn't catch a dam thing on them so I sold most of them.
