Thanks Bird . I'm keeping the leader length no longer than from tip to hook keeper . Like so many things , I have a feeling that more time on the water will provide a resolution :)

A long 7'  X 6X leader might be needed for spooky wild trout ?  But not for LMB & SMB.

But a 6 foot leader might allow me to be able to retie to the lure once or twice if needed ?? 

Dozens of times. I still use those tapered leaders for trout. Bass do not care.
