Inshore bait casting

Featured Replies

I know this website is for bass fishing, but does anyone inshore fish for redfish/sea trout/strippers? I am looking for a bait casting casting rod and reel that will add up to somewhere in the 400 dollar range. I appreciate the help.

Yes, a 150 or 200 sized reel matched to a 7'+ MH or H rod will work well. A Calcutta, Curado, or anything similar will work well, as will most mid priced rods. I like one of my furies as much (more actually) for inshore than bass. A 3000 sized reel with a M/MH 7' spinning outfit is good too.

I primarily fish inshore from a kayak on the Texas coast.

There's a lot of overlap between bass and inshore tackle.

I can recommend TackleDirect as a great place to shop.

Rods, hard to go wrong with St. Croix, a bit heavier but a great rod is Crowder made in Florida, also 13Fishing Omen Green.

Best baitcast reel is Lew's Super Duty G, and best spinning reel is Shimano Stradic.

I find strippers inshore quite frequently.  They use very sturdy poles, no reel necessary.  Might have a tough time staying under $400 though.

Diawa inshore, Shimano SLX, Curado etc make good options. I’d make the reel choice looking at what bait I want t throw and how far. Shimano has a Gulf caster that is nice as well as many budget friendly options from others. Sized again by your bait range.

Reels the Daiwa Coastal series are nice and come in 150/200 sizes the Penn baitcasters get good reviews and come in 200/300/400 sizes.

Rods St Croix or Falcon.
