Cold fronts during spawn

Featured Replies

How do cold fronts affect the spawn for pond/small lake bass? We recently had two 50 degree days with heavy rain here in New Jersey which resulted in water temps being dropped a bit, I went today to one of my spots and noticed all the cruising females were now gone and a few beds were abandoned with only a handful of small fish locked on some in the shallower section of the lake.

Where do these females/males that left their beds retreat to and how do you catch them?

They won't move far, they may also be harder to see in the reduced vis caused by heavy rain and might still be there, they sometimes do laps around the area, and you will see them circling back. They are already acting funky if they are on the beds, and not feeding as much, so the front effect won't be as pronounced as in other times.
