Dobyn's Fury Rods - Flukes & Jerkbaits

Featured Replies

I'm wondering if my Dobyn's Fury 705CB would be appropriate for jerkbaits such as the Megabass Vision 110 Jr +1 or even just the regular Megabass Vision 110? Paired up with a Shimano SLX XT. Using 10-12lb Big Game mono.

Also, would my Dobyn's Fury 733C be appropriate for flukes? Paired up with a Shimano SLX XT. I believe I have 10-12 Big Game mono on this rig as well.

I really like the Dobyn's Fury rods since they are affordable and I have a lot of them. Trying to make do with what I have already. I'd love to have a fancy Shimano Expride 6'10" Medium for Jerkbaits, but I don't fish enough to justify that kind of money on a rod. Plus, if I can fish it with something I already have, that's even better.

Thanks!

I'd do both on the 733

I do jerks on my FR703C/Supreme with 10# YZH

If I did weightless flukes on a casting rig - it'd be the same rig - right now I toss them on my FR703SF/President XT-LE 30 with 8# InvizX

Ya, I like Furys too.

It's a bit too much rod both in terms of power and length, but it will work in a pinch.

I agree with @MN Fisher  I think the 110's require a specific action to bring out their best.  The tip needs some "firmness" to get the action but not too much either.  I too wish for the fabled goldilox Expride 6'10.  I think the 705cb tip doesn't impart the best action on the 110, but if they hit, you'll land em.  If you have a 4 or 5 power fury, you might be able to have both tied on at the same time by sliding the fluke to the heavier power if you're throwing it T-rigged.  Nose hooked on the 705cb should be fine.
