I know most all of you already know this, but I have to reiterate it: Chasing a missed fish with a Senko is MONEY!

 

I went out yesterday to my local lake and was throwing a weedless topwater frog into the thickest slop I could find. I ended up catching several fish, as you would imagine. However, with every single missed hookup, I threw a wacky rigged Senko into the spot where I missed them and every single time they went after that too! Like I said, I know this isn't new to most of you, but this was my first time ever doing it, and the fact that I don't think there was a single time that the Senko didn't get hit amazed me. I feel like I can cover so much more water now using some type of searchbait and then following it up with a Senko if need be. It was so much fun.

I don't do it as much as I should for bass, but for all the Esox, I purposely throw stuff that will make them reveal themselves, and then come back and pick them up with something they will munch, either immediately after, or minutes or even hours later.

I did that for my first time last week.  I had a bass hit a Zara Spook and missed it. Immediately threw a WR Senko and it hit it immediately. Lots of fun!

Will most soft plastics as a follow up work then?

In my opinion anything that would fall in front of them they’ll hit, if it resembles forage or not. It’s a pure reaction strike. 

One time after missing a frog I picked up what I thought was my normal follow up bait but grabbed a rod with a jerk bait. 
I hesitated thinking about changing real quick but threw it anyway, she hit before I could engage the reel.

@KSanford33 Welcome to marsh fishing 101!

 

Been doing this since the late 60s, back then it was a Johnson spoon & pork chunk followed up with a t-riggged worm.

 

Any time I'm throwing a topwater of any kind in open water or cover I have a Texas Rig handy.

 

Another reason I keep a Texas Rig on deck 24/7/365!

Another key technique is just to throw the senko first.
