Portable battery charger

Featured Replies

I’m looking for a portable battery charger. Sometimes the areas we camp do not have power and I need to be able to charge my trolling motor battery. Any suggestions?

There are plenty of portable battery charger available.  The problem is how to power them when you’re off the grid.  A small gas powered generator is probably your best bet and that’s not a very good one.  If you only have one trolling motor battery,  I would consider bringing an extra one.

So you need to charge the battery - but there's no place to plug in a standard charger?

Two options far as I can see:

1 - get a mega-AH lithium battery, so it'll last the whole trip without needing a charge.

2 - bring a portable generator and some cans of gas to run it.

If you have 1 battery take fully charged spare. Otherwise you need a gas powered portable 12DC generator,Honda EU1000 or similar.

Back when the wife and I boondocked " no electricity" , I simply carried an extra deep cycle battery.

I believe that to be a better and cheaper option to a generator and fuel. Imo

I have a 1k Honda that gets used when the MK alternator needs help.  That said the alternator has helped me last a weekend with no electricity
