Rod/Reel/Line/Hook setup for open water fluke fishing vs fluke fishing in cover

Get yourself a Dobyns Sierra 734 (I like the micro guide version...I'm running straight braid). Reel-something around 7.3 speed. 40# braid of your choice. 3/0 or 4/0 Mustad Grip Pin hook. Love this setup for Flukes.

Also, the 6th Sense Flush is a real nice soft stick bait.

My fluke setups:

Senkos/fluke/caffeine shad w/ 3/32 screwlock, underspin, dark sleeper, Sleeper gill: Daiwa Zillion SV 7gear, Megabass Destroyer P5 Dark Sleeper, JDM Sunline 14lb fc

Fluke, T-rig, Senko, Swim Jigs, big Shakey, heavy drop shot: Abu Revo Ike 8 gear, Falcon Lowrider “All ‘Round Fast” 7’ MHF, 15lb invisx fc

Fluke, T-rig, Senko, Swim Jigs, big Shakey, heavy drop shot: Daiwa Fuego 7.3, Falcon Lowrider “All ‘Round Fast” 7’ MHF, 15lb fc

SPINNING:

Skipping flukes/heavyish drop shot/shakey/underspin/Finesse frog: Penn Battle II, Daiwa Tatula XT 7’3 MHF spinning, 20lb power pro braid to 15lb invisx fc leader

Hooks for flukes are either a Gama 4/0-6/0 EWG or an Owner 3/0 light twist lock.

I fish flukes primarily on spinning tackle, 7'1"MF St. Croix Mojo Bass, 15lb braid to an 8lb mono leader, 4/0 Owner offset round bend worm hook, I have had several very, very productive days with this setup, it's also much simpler to skip with this than a baitcaster.
