Morning bass by the shore

Featured Replies

So I have been going out relatively early. Usually before the sun rises. And I have found that a lot of the bigger bass are hugging the shore of my city ponds. They seem almost like they are still sleeping. How would you guys recommend I attack these fish without spooking them? These are highly pressured ponds. Any help will be welcome.

When iwas younger I would creep in low, stay farther back, and cast to them.  Beyond them.

In many situations, especially in clearer water, I’ve found that if you are walking the bank and you can see the fish, they are also aware of you. If you can figure out where they are by patterning them and then casting to them where neither of you can see each other, that would be my approach along with a long cast beyond them brought up to them.

P.S pay attention to the direction of your silhouette.

Early morning low light those bass are looking for terrestrial prey to fall into the water from the bank.

As already mentioned stand back from the bank and keep a low profile. Make a long cast with a hollow body frog that lands on the bank edge if possible. Hope into water and work it tight to the bank about a 1 foot or so away from the shore line. Cast forward, the turn around and cast the opposite direction working your way around the pond. Cast over any Matt’s you come across.

After the sun is up use a weighless Senko.

Also to ad to the already good advice, do not wear loud colored clothing, the more you blend in with the surroundings, the better.
