Cool app I found

We’re heading to the U.P. in the morning for a little family vacation and one of our stops is going to be the SOO locks. My son has never been there and I haven’t been in probably 30 years. I did some Google searching to see if I could find some sort of schedule for when a big freighter might pass through the locks so we could time it right.

My search pointed me to a site called ais.boatnernd.com which is specifically for the locks and also an app called Marine Traffic. This app is cool and for the past couple days I’ve been glued to it! It shows all the boat traffic in the world. Holy crap are there a ton of vessels on the water! You can see pictures, get size info, speed, and destination info as well. There’s a search function to look up the location of boats too including some Navy ships.  Boatnerd.com gives a ton of in-depth info on the vessels that sail the Great Lakes specifically too, like there are currently 13 vessels that are 1000’ long sailing the Great Lakes. Hoping to see one of these massive boats in person.

Anyways I’ve been nerding out on this app and 6poundbass got it on his phone so the apple doesn’t fall fall from the tree I guess. For you aviation folks there’s an app for that too.

We were in St Ignace yesterday -

Lynn had a medical appointment

But the ride was nice and it was a super beautiful day.

The kind you want to save for a few months from now.

Enjoy your VaCa.

Have a great vacation bud!

You left the door unlocked, right? Didn’t quite make it there yet to hijack the Lites and let the dogs out yet. :ok-wink:
