Top Water walking Bait Rod

Featured Replies

I would never use any of my 844's for walking baits.  Way easier to walk and keep the hooks in the fish with a lighter rod.

The Madbull is supposed to be a great walking bait rod. The Conquest seems like it would be a waste to use for topwaters. I assume it's made for sensitivity and its fast action would excel at jigs and t-rigs. It's personal preference but I find those reel seats to be super uncomfortable for working moving baits.

You keep posting rod and reel questions in the tackle section, you might get more responses if you post in the right place.

Considering the conquest 844c vs the Megabass P5 Destoryer Madbull

Has anyone tried either of these for topwater walking baits?

I’m hard pressed to criticize any aspect of the 844c but I don’t think walking baits are the best application for it. I’ve used an NRX 803c for topwater before (way overkill) and even that didn’t feel 100% “right”. Strictly speaking, medium power is best. Will the 844c work? Yes, there isn’t much that rod won’t do…you’ll just have an easier time walking and keeping fish pinned will a medium power.

Can’t speak on that destroyer, personally…but if it’s a lighter power, it’s probably more apropos

I use the Megabass Oneten Stick for walking baits.  It was designed for jerkbaits but works great for walking.  I especially like that it is 6’5” with a shorter handle.  Purchasing JDM is much cheaper than USDM.
