7’6” ml spinning rod uses

Featured Replies

For largemouth. I can think of Ned rig, split shot what else maybe a small Swimbait.

The spinning rods I use most are 7'4" or 7'6".  The only time I want a shorter rod is if I am skipping docks.  I have a 5'9" that I use for that.  The longer rods are better for casting distance and controlling fish.  They fit in my boat fine so I don't see any negative to them.  I had a 7'9" spinning rod that I used for small swimbaits and I loved the extra length.  Give the longer rod a shot.  I bet you'll be happy with it.

Okashira screw heads with a tiny swimbait.

I stared fishing longer spinning rod models as well. They just bomb baits and if they are higher end they still are super light and balanced.

I could see it being better than, say, a 6’6” ML/F, for drop shot in deeper, offshore structure. Takes less rod movement to drag the rig, “set” the hook, and fight the fish. Though maybe a M/XF is better for deeper water if using straight fluoro instead of braid—>fluoro leader.

Same for sparse cover Neko rig—but there again you might want heavier weight to get it down to depth, and a Medium or a shorter ML to not have too much tip.

Was quite something seeing Tyler Rivet on Bassmaster’s Lake Oahe throwing a 3/4oz weight for his drop shot rig. But they get a lot more wind up there than I suspect I’ll ever fish in TN.
