Shaky Head Rod in the Tatula Spinning Rod Lineup?

Featured Replies

Anybody have any experience with the Tatula line (the $150 line, not the Elite or XT).

I have the 7'1 med-light drop shot rod, which I love. I've been looking for another rod for shaky head, neko etc. I figured the 7'0 medium would be a good choice but I've read a few places that it's closer to a MH than a medium? It is rated to 3/4 oz. They also have a 6'10 medium that's rated to only 3/8 oz. In my experience most mediums are rated up to 1/2 oz or 5/8 oz.

Just wondering if anybody has fished either of these rods.

Thanks.

The 7' M F feels like the older ML SCs that were rated 1/8-1/2.  I cant see that rod being very effective with 3/16 SH and a heavier stickbait like an Airtail Rattler or even a mag trick.  It really comes down to the weight of the SHs you're using and the baits you're using with it.  The 7' would be great for straight tails with 1/16 or 1/8 SHs for sure, but once you get to 3/16 or 1/4 Im not so sure how much power is left in the rod to set a hook at the end of the cast.  They make a 7'3 XF which is what I would lean towards if I was going to be throwing SHs 1/8 or heavier.

I've owned the tat and currently use the daiwa kage 7'0" m/f, it's superb for neko and shakey head fishing, it feels lighter and more sensitive than the tats (I've heard it's the same blank but unfinished), it's also rated 1/8-3/4oz, medium/fast is a very accurate power/action rating on both imo and am suspect of it's 3/4oz top end rating, like most rods it's top end weight can be done but it's pushing it, I've tossed lucky craft pointer 100's with it (5/8oz) and would not go heavier. I have a year old one in mint condition I'm about to list for sale as I'm leveling up to expride or possibly loomis real soon here. Pm me if interested.

The 7’ medium is a great shaky head rod. It has a great taper, and can handle up to a 5/16SH jig no problem. The 6’10” has an extra fast tip, and has a little stiffer action over all. If you want to use 1/16 SH jigs, it might not load enough for you. Both are killer rods. As you stated the 7’1” drop shot rod is also a great rod. It is one of my all time favorite spinning rods regardless of price.

I like the 6'10" medium I would consider it being between the 7'1" M/L and the 7' medium. It really depends on the size and weight that your throwing.

Why not go with the 7-6 Ml/M?

I guess I've never thrown a shaky head on a rod that long. You have this model?

I have fished and owned all the 7-6 models and yes it would work. These rods are so light and balanced that you won't even know your holding a 7-6.
