I've got a Nasci 2000s on my wishlist - 26IPT, 7.3oz....$78 from Digitaka...for some reason they don't sell the 2000 size over here.

2000s is the same as 2000, its just shallow spool for lighter lines so you use less line but get the advantages of less memory and better line management.

Thing is - I can't find a 2000 size anything by Shimano at US shops...only JDM. US stores carry 1000, then 2500.

1000 and 2000 size reels on shimano and diawa are almost identical, usually same body different spool size.

Also note, USM Stradic 1000FL is JDM Stradic C2000SHG - same-same.

C1000S in JDM is 3-mm smaller spool diameter, low gearing.

JDM C2000S Vanquish next to JDM 1000S Stradic (both with aftermarket upgrades)

here's the JDM skinny - 3 frame sizes, which you can pick out by the weight

That's the other part that hits me. I want the slower retrieve that the JDMs have...do they think that all USDM reels have to be high-speed to entice the buyers?

JDM reels have 5-1-1 gear ratio, sometimes they dont always have it in stock.

hi eric and all... i got a 6'6" celilo, to go along with my 6'. then there's my 5' shakespeare microlite. then i move my reels amongst them - i have a real light shimano sienna 500, about 6.3 oz, then heavier 1000's - shimano sedona and a penn battle iii. i think they are almost 1 1/2 oz more than the little sienna. unclear if i like the 1000's more than the 500. i think i have less confidence in the 500, in terms of strength and durability, unsure about drag.

so right now moving reels among rods, seeing which combination i like, etc. i'm using all 4# mono, to keep that part simple.

i'd like to get an upgrade in rods at some point, once i've figured this stuff out more.

That's quite possible.  We as Americans tend to be numbers driven, more is better, and sometimes less is better depending on what it's referring to.  Look at how reels are marketed; speed, bearing count, line capacity, maximum drag, and weight.  A reel that brings in a lowly 23" per turn with a few bearings and a maximum drag of 4lb will fly under the radar of the average American fisherman.  That's probably why reels like the Daiwa Presso/Pixy/Alphas, Calcutta Conquest 50S, and various iterations of the Daiwa Millionaire were never sold here or saw very limited release.  It's that American "go big or go home" mentality.
