What size hook do i want for 4” keitech

Featured Replies

I am using the two types of keitechs pictured below, 4 inches, one is a swing impact. What size hook do i need, there are options of 1/0 3/0 5/0 and 6/0, i have one similar without the blade that is 3/0 and it works well, so that is what i am thinking of getting.

also i am looking for spinnerbaits and their subsequent trailers, but i have no idea what to look for. How do i know what size hook and weight to choose

On a 4" paddletail, I think I would go with the 3/0 hook. You dont want the hook to impede the action of the tail, so I don't like a hook that is more than about half the body length, so I THINK the 5/0 would likely be too big and the 1/0 would likely be too small.

As for the spinnerbait,... I typically don't run a trailer, and the hooks are fixed, so no choice to make there. In my opinion,... Don't overthink it. Start with a 1/4oz or 3/8oz in a colored skirt you like and go for it. Can't beat a white or white/chartreuse spinnerbait to start off with. Expand from there.

Only thing I would suggest is round Colorado blades in muddier or stained water for more vibration, or thinner willow blades for clearer water

The advice given by F is good. 3/0 for the paddletail and don’t sweat the spinnerbaits. If you use a trailer, use something small and simple like a little fluke or shad-style bait.

3/0 maybe on the easy shiner. 1/0 on the swing impact. 1/0 would also work on the easy shiner I would think.   The swing impact is small, thin and a bigger hook will be too much imo. I use the 3/0 on the 3.8 fat which fishes much larger than either of the two you mentioned. That all being said I never run the flashy swimmer on either of those. Just a regular ballhead. When I use the flashy it's usually with the fat.

The easy shiner fishes small to me as well.  I'd be inclined to try the 1/0 flashy swimmer on both.

It depends on the species.  #1 for a Smally and 1/0 for a Largemouth.

1/8oz MB okishira **screw**head and a 2.8

1/0 dirty jigs guppy head in whatever weight you like.

I’ve caught LM, SM, crappie, bluegill, walleye, and northern on these little guys.

My personal opinion is a 2.8 is too small to texpose.
