First Boat Help

Featured Replies

What’s going on guys, I’m looking to buy my first bass boat and this boat is right up my alley. I’ve been waiting for a Rt178 to be for sale, in my price range and it’s finally relatively close to where I live. My budget max budget is $20k so I’m hoping I can get this down to $18k. Is that realistic? I’ve never haggled with a boat dealer. I know there are extra fees that they add on there, so I really like to be out the door at 18 flat.

Are there any red flags you see that I don’t when you look at the listing? It’s my first time buying or dealing with a boat dealer. I’ve got screwed buying a car when I was in my early twenties so I have so apprehension and honestly it’s hard to trust dealers even if they are reputable. I’m trying to get a buddy to come see if with me but that’s not for a few weeks. So seeing what y’all have to say or advice in general.

That listing indicates that the engine hours are at 19.

If that's the original motor and that number is accurate, buy it now.

Good Luck

It’s not the original motor, looks like mildew on the carpet on both casting decks too…

What did they list the boat at?  Before checking it out in person, I'd give a call over to the marina and ask why the boat has such low hours in 6 years, why the motor was changed, what the white stuff that seems to be all over the boat and trailer and whether the talon was professionally installed.  Based on the answers to those questions you can start haggling or not.

Couldn’t open the link so can’t help. Ask if the boat, trailer, engine were used in salt water. If yes keep looking.
