Shimano SLX Swimbait Rod

Featured Replies

Anyone have experience with these Shimano SLX Swimbait rods yet? I'm wondering if the MH can handle a 6" jig hook bait or an 8/0 beast hook. I know the heavy can do it fine. Thanks.

I fish the SLX heavy and from fishing it, I'd think the MH wouldn't drive the big single hook to my liking.

I have one and it cant do it right. You need to look for another options. There is few other rods in same range of price that can handle it.

One alternative - Irod's Gen III alabama rig rod (rated 1-4oz) is mostly what I fish owner 8/0 beast hooks on, with a 6" soft swimbait. 1-4 oz. Might be a little soft for some on the hookset on flouro (which is what I'm using) but I do a big sweep on the rod and it's working well.

Thanks guys. I ended up getting an IMX Pro 904 SWBR. It's definitely not a jig hook rod, but it's really nice for smaller glides, super spooks, ploppers, etc. Ill have to find something else for single hooks.
