Been searching for that new bass rig!!

Featured Replies

Ya know I have been lookin to buy a new bass rig for the last 2 years but just have never pulled the trigger on anything. I was prepared to spend up to 45k on a new rig...

What I have now is a xpress 1548 duck boat that I have had for 12 years or so. I have fished, duck hunted, jugged, bowfished, and road a many of backwater in that rig!!!.. Just a great boat.

I have looked and read and looked and read for 2 years about buying a new boat!! But just can't seem to pull the trigger, and I always get back into my little aluminum rig and fish just as hard as if I had a 21 foot rig with a 250..

You know these new big rigs are extremely nice and got plenty of storage and fly down the lake too, but do I really need all that????

I seem to keep coming back to aluminum for some strange reason. So I have been looking at the xpress and g3 boats.. What ever I do I know I want 2 side imaging units, and dual powerpoles, and the fortrex minnkota tm.

So is it crazy that I want such a small rig, I would at least want to upgrade to 16-18 foot aluminum rig with maybe a 60-90 hp motor..

What do y'all think??

Down here in the delta we fish oxbows, cypress brakes, small to large lakes and rivers.

Anyhow let me know if my thoughts are getting caught up in all the big Rig vs little aluminum rig??

Get a tricked out Xpress.

Mine will be here in a few weeks. ;)

Seems you have a good sense in what you want/need. I was in a similar situation. I was lookin at bigger boats but like you could not get myself to bite.

Ended up getting a tracker proteam 17 with a 40hp to hold me over until I could make up my mind.

That was a few years ago and I haven't had the urge since.

Just pick up an 18'-19' glass rig 15 or so years old with a 150 or 175 and keep your tin boat. Have the best of both worlds!!!

And, it will leave you with about twenty thou to spend on electronics and other goodies. My 2009 Z7 with an EFI 150 will do close to 60 mph fully loaded with gear and fuel. The newer versions with an Optimax should do 60 mph.

It's big enough for three to fish from it. Has two rod lockers that will handle rods up to eight feet. While it's no Ranger, Bass Cat or whatever, it's a good value, and size for size, it will handle what they will. No bass boats are designed for rough weather. Though some may be better than others, none have adequate freeboard when the waves kick up.

If you do end up with a fiberglass boat, or even aluminum, get a keel guard.
