Greeting ready to pull the plug and get the boat.   I only need a bow mounted trolling motor and want a MinnKota Endura Max 55.   Do I want to 36" or 42" shaft?    36"  correct?

thanks

36 is better for my boat. It's not a Pelican but it's the same style. Mine is the Uncle Buck's Pond Prowler.

UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

My Pelican 10e was just purchased and i haven't had it in the water yet, does anybody here row their pelican? If so what type/brand/lenght of oar do you recommend? After reading here a Minn Kota is in the future but i like the idea of rowing around the lakes where i camp for excercise. I wanna thank all you members for this thread and all the great info & pics, it's been very helpful for a new guy like me. Now back to reading this thread, i'm only on pg. 23!

These boats don't make the best row boats due to their width, hull configuration, and lack of any side oar lock provision.  I guess if you wanted to row you would want a single, long, double blade oar/paddle like you would use in a large Kayak.

thank you...

I've put about double double what I paid for my boat into accessories this spring, but I think it should make it more "fishable" really ready for spring

I plAn on just using my tackle warehouse backpack this year. I don't carry lots of year in this boat either, due to limited spAce

36"-40" TM with a Big Foot switch wired in, is a must, IMO.

I plan on giving the double paddle thing a try this spring. We have a very nice lake near us that is a "no electric" lake. I will have to fashion a rudder though

I did this last summer. I didn't buy the 10E so I was a little miffed as to how I'm going to get some light for some night fishing on this thing. So I took it apart. I ran the wires for lights, battery both front and back trolling motor plugs. I then put it back together with Butyl Tape and 3/8 rivets. I was able to put the plastic rail back on, however I had about an 8" shortage in the back, so I took a piece of rubber hose and put a slit down the middle and screwed it in.

I put my new Pelican in the water today for the first time. My wife and i were both on it and we were surprised how stable it was. Can't wait to get it out and do some fishing this Spring. Nobody here warned me how much of a conversation piece this lil boat is, LOL. I have a clean chevelle & 65 coupe deville and a couple restored old 900 Kaw's so i'm used to getting attention at gas pumps and such but people swarmed me when i unloaded my boat out of my pick up at the boat ramp. I launched it at a community waterfront park and everybody came up to us asking questions about it. I liked the attention it got, I always enjoy meeting new people with similar interest. I bet this Spring i'll get more attention & compliments with this lil pelican than guys with $10,000-$20,000 dollar boats get.

hey guys,

Great thread!  I am going to go out and buy a boat this weekend.  I have both Academy and Rural King in driving distance. So here is my question.  Is the 10ft Pelican $200 better than the 8ft Sun Dolphin.  90% of the time I will be solo.  the wife and kid may join me the first time or 2, but as the novelty wears off, they will quit.

I could buy the Trolley Motor, Battery and Box for the $200 I could save.

Thoughts?

Jon

I also considered the 8ft'er but after reading here the advantages of the 10ft'er and the possibility that my wife or a friend may go out with me i chose the 10ft'er.

Trust me when I say, 2 ' in this or any boat makes a huge difference. When considering the limited space it already has, the extra 2 feet is even more valuable!! :idea-007: Always buy the biggest boat you can afford...

I think the last thing you would want is to WISH you had purchased the 10' model. Good luck

Thanks!

I was leaning that way anyway.  And now that i read that Dicks will price match, I don't have to drive an hour to Academy, that clinched the deal.

My local Dick's wouldn't price match for me because we don't have a Academy in this state.

Mine is in the same state. about 45ish miles north.  so i hope they do, but if not, I will just drive up the road:0

I'm sure they want to match the competition to get the sale. No Academy's here in Maryland so they aren't considered competition. Keep us posted.

I'm sure there is some members from Md, Va, and Pa on here. We should plan a plastic boat "Fishing meet" this upcoming Spring for a day of fishing. It would be cool to meet & fish with some fellow members.

good luck with the purchase - Jon

Yes it's big enough for 2 but use discretion on what you bring with you. The floor fills up fast with stuff and I am alone 90% of the time. I'm going to put some time and effort into modifying the boat to keep stuff off the floor. The rod storage kind of sucks. I'm not crazy about resting my rods unsecured on top of the pontoons 2" inches from going over the side.

For a motor I have a 45 lb Endura Max by Minnkota. It's a great motor and never even comes close to killing the 24 group battery. I go out from 5 to 7 hrs. If I could do it again I would go for the 55 lb and a little bigger battery but It's not really an issue. I'm very happy with my set up

I use standard bass boat deck rod tie downs and they work really well. Can tie down 4-5 rods per Side if I want to. I also installed them in spots down the rail, so when the seats are in and transporting the boat. They hold down the seat in place at highway speeds.

Looks good above.

How does everyone store your car keys, phone, wallet, etc. when in the boat? A small float bag tied to the boat?  Thanks

Heck not me I have mine in my pockets. Well my phone I have in a ziplock but the rest is with me in my pockets.

Looks great! Available at Bass Pro , I guess?

Just bought this BassTender 10'2. Had an 8' Pelican Bass Raider and after one trip my son said its too small for both of us. Considered a newer Predator but liked this older model Tender because of the space inside. Didn't like the pod felling of the Predator. I think its going to work out good. We are both not really big people so we should have plenty of room. Can't wait to try it out.

yah BPS or Amazon, can't remember where I found them.

I would also be interested in getting together for a day of fishing with the raiders, sounds like fun.

Looks nice, good luck with it and have fun!

I mentioned that fishing meet, lets plan something. Tommyx & Canam is interested. I'm also a member on a fiberglass camper forum, ATV forum and a Toyota 4x4 forum and we have planned meets for camping, ATV'ing our quads & 4x4'ing our trucks. It's a blast everytime.

Check out Lake Redman in York Pa. That's pretty central to us, 290 acres. Looks good to me. http://traveltips.usatoday.com/fishing-seasons-lake-redman-pennsylvania-29898.html

Sounds good to me! My wife and I hike there with our 2 dogs. Beautiful lake and park, and its right off of I-83 so its easy to find. I heard the fishing is good, I never fished there personally. Hopefully some more members chime in then we can agree on a day. I'm available any Sat or Sun.
