Does anyone use a Minn Kota Traxxis?

It's time for a new TM, and my current motor is a Motorguide 30" shaft.  I hate having to hunch over every time I need to use the TM (I'm pretty tall).  I thought the best bet would either be a 36" Traxxis with the tilting handle, or a 42" Endura Maxx?  Thoughts?

The only issue is the Traxxis doesn't seem to be available many places? BP/Cabelas says "this product is no longer available"?

Anyone have thoughts? I want to go ahead and get it ordered.

I've takin the Traxxis out of the running. They aren't available at BP.

So it's between the 36" and 42" Endura Maxx. It's just hard to decipher exactly how high a 42" will be.

Update:
I ordered the 42" 55lb. I figure if it's too long I can cut the shaft down. However when standing I think it's going to be about right. Based on my rough measurements, the handle should be right at my palm when my arm is hanging naturally.

UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

bulge in the floor?

Hi All,

I just got used Pelican Bass Raider 10E DLX. She looks mighty fine however I noticed that it had a bulging area towards the front. The middle part is kinda soft but the back is pretty solid and stable.

When you walk on the bulging area, it seems like something is in there and my theory was it may be a styrofoam that shifted somehow.

So my question... has anybody here encountered something similar or have any idea how to fix it?

I can cover it all up with the puzzle piece floor mat but that uneven flooring will always bother me and could cause someone to trip over it and fall overboard.

from the side, the floor almost looks like this line.

Well. This is just freaking awesome.
New motor came in, and this is what I found when I unboxed it.  Going to ruin my fishing trip this weekend. Great.

Got word the my 10e NXT shipped. Going to be interesting to see how this compares to the crestliner I used to have. The nice part about this is that my GF lives two houses off a small lake so it will be nice to just wheel it done to the water instead of trailering 45+ minutes. Excited to get back on the water after a few years away.

So I'm getting my 10E this Friday, we're going to bass pro and picking it up with a pickup truck, will we get pulled over for having the boat in the bed? Also how do we secure it? I'm guessing some kind of straps/wires?

be putting a MK powerdrive on my 10 E soon be foot controlled then instead of always having to stop fishing and using my hand to steer.

Do you stand to fish in your 10E?

I thought about a foot control, but I stand in my Pond Prowler, and it's not nearly stable enough to be doing the one foot balance.

no I dont stand very often so it should work out ok for me

Yep, if you sit most of the time, foot control all the way.

That’s a good idea. Nicely done.

I have a machine and fab shop at my disposal, so it makes sense to just build from scratch. If I didn’t I’d definitely go the paddle route.

I have a similar setup, except I use the shaft from an old trolling motor, and attached a product called Bullnose Rudder.  I think it was about $35 for the rudder online.  Same principle as your set up.  If you have an old paddle lying around, your option is cheaper.  Mine works awesome also.

X2 for the bullnose rudder.  Nice little piece that looks much better than what I carved out of plexiglass :)

I might add a Bullnose to my TM anyway. My rudder works fantastic, but I'd imagine adding one to the TM as well will be that much better.

A buddy of mine fishes online Kayak tournaments. It got me thinking....

It's to bad there is not a similar organization for the plastic boat crowd.  It would be fairly simple to implement, and a lot of fun.

Got my boat today! Bass pro had a new stock of the brand new NXT 10E models in! Very excited for this new chapter of my fishing experience.

Congrats tsb106. She's good looking for sure.

Anybody got a pic of the Bullnose?

Does anyone use a switch panel for Nav lights on the raider? I saw a guy in YouTube using it and it looked pretty sweet. Also what would be a good nav light kit to use?

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks for that, OG.  And welcome here.

You are going to have a blast, my rig is an old Alumacraft rowboat paired with a minn kota trolling motor that I got last year and I just started taking it out on my local lake this spring. Boats unlock so many fishing opportunities. I have started catching much more quality fish then ever before.

Woohoo !!  I just finished reading all 132 pages of this thread :toothy10:. I found this forum, more specifically, this thread about a week ago while searching for replacement seat brackets for my Pond Prowler. After seeing all the mods you folks have done on these little boats I think I've decided to go with a pedestal seat instead (maybe even a raised deck).

I learned a lot from this thread about things that I hadn't given any thought to before so a big thank you to all of you.

I was at Basspro today and saw the new version of the Pond Prowler and think that I prefer my older model without all the factory bells and whistles.

I don't know if I'll have any success posting pictures but there is a lot of differences between the two. My older one has the squared off bow.

Was curious what kind of rudder design people are building for their boat or would I be okay with just getting the bullnose rudder for my trolling motor??

I too have the original version, albeit with a bunch of modifications.  When I saw the new version, I was disappointed, for many of those changes hinder the ability to store tackle or utilize the space on the boat.  The new version kind of reminded me of the Simpsons episode where Homer designed a car.

Cut off the top & bottom of an old trolling motor, leaving just the mount and the shaft.  Attach the bullnose rudder to the shaft & you are set.

I know the bullnose rudder is designed to be attached to an active trolling motor, but using it as a rudder works great for me.

Has anyone added a scupper hole to the bass raider?

Please add one, there are videos on YouTube for it. I didn't have one and then it rained and I had to bail out water using my coffee cup. Not fun.

So using a bullnose rudder on an active trolling motor wouldn't be enough? You're suggesting build a rudder for the stern would be the best option?
