I am planning helping my friend build a casting deck for his pond prowler. It looks like the most common size of plywood to use is 3/4”. We would like to make it as light as possible so is it necessary to add any bracing under the plywood for added strength? Thank you for your help.

Hey bud this video will help you out on how to build and brace the casting deck it’s a how to video step by step that a buddy and I made. It has everything you need dimensions, material list, even a print out outline for the hatch and front floor. Hope it helps. If you have any questions let me know.

UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

I don't know if poster "Murphy S. Law" still checks this board...he made the following statement last year.  I'd like to know if that worked for him.  I had that issue on maiden voyage with this boat the other night.

Why? Did they cancel it or did you? When did you order?

They cancelled. May 15. you should check your order status

Drilling holes to mount things....i have had my 10e since 2013 and have not drilled any holes to mount items as of yet....how comfortable are most with drilling holes in your raider?.....thanks

Got off the phone with cabelas, Pelican has been extremely behind on backorders with most of their products including the bass raider, which explains why the orders (including mine) have been canceled, probably gonna buy the bass hunter 120, it's sorta like the pelican but something that is really cool about the bass hunter is it can have a mount for foot controlled trolling motors.

I'm glad I jumped on the Sundolphin 8.5 when Sportsmans Warehouse had them for $299

Anyone ever taken these little boats to the saltwater? Any problems?

I apparently ran the Bass Raider too hard on a joy ride with the wife.  Ran my 45 thrust wide open for a while, and it crapped out on me.  The black covering over the fuse on the red wire that came with the boat split open, and I am assuming I fried the fuse.  I also use the Minn Kota Power Center that has a breaker.  I have read that with that breaker, you can cut out the fuse on the red wire that came with the boat, and not use a fuse any more.  If anyone reading this knows what they are doing (obviously I don't!), do you agree?  How do I go about that?  Would I have to splice the line back together?

Did you look at the fuse to make sure it blew ? Is it possible it just came apart? I’ve been cruising around on mine with a 55lb thrust with no problem. But to answer your question yes you can cut out that fuse if your using the minnkota battery box with the 60amp breaker.

I did not pull the fuse out, because I wasn't sure what I was doing, but the wire was quite hot.  Are you suggesting maybe I should just tape it up as is, and if the fuse isn't blown, all is good?  If I do take it out, do I just tape it up also?

If the fuse is not blown your good. If you take the fuse out you will need to connect the wires with a butt connector. And I would also put some heat shrink tubing over it.

Great news, I just taped the wire back together and I'm good as new.  It was getting dark when I paddled back last night, so I didn't really get a chance to look at it at when I got back.  I think what maybe happened is I had tilted the boat on its side to hose it out, and when I did so, I think the edge of the boat crimped that wire and cut it right where the in-line fuse is taped in.  I am surprised it worked at all, but I guess maybe when we were out on the water we bumped it and knocked it loose.  Thanks Born 2 Fish for your reply.

That’s great news. You should carry a extra fuse or two just in case you do blow one.

Can two people fish out of a Bass Hunter eight footer comfortably  ? I like that model cause it has the built in wheels and is the lightest of their three models. I’m 72 years old with very weak legs, so weight matters. Thanks

The 8 foot boats are tight for two people.  Remember that each of you are sitting 18" -24" from the bow & stern, which only leaves 4 to 5 feet for both of your seats and the space between you.  If the 2nd fisherman is a kid under 10, it might not be a big deal, but two adults in an 8 foot boat is like 3 men in a tub.

I'd highly recommend the 10 ft models.

I just purchased a Bass Raider. I want to add some modifications/upgrades to the boat. What is the best fastener (screws, pop rivets, etc) to use?

If you look through this thread, there is lots of discussion about that.  I have seen where folks have used self tapping screws, rivets, rivnuts, and well nuts.   I have never read where any of those folks have had any issues.   I got my boat a couple months ago, and I am trying to resist the temptation to drill into it (other than adding a drain plug, which seems like a must-have to me).  Good luck; these boats are a lot of fun.

I would have no qualms about drilling holes topside.  But the previous owner of my BassHunter drilled holes in the back of the boat for the transducer and I have to be super careful not to bump it.  I knocked it loose once and had to go to several different stores for the parts for the repair.  Luckily I tore it loose on land.

I have seen reference to some kind of 2 part plastic epoxy that I will use if I have to repair it again.  I will probably attach a plastic mounting plate over the holes.

I say...well nuts. I've used them on the Raider and my kayak without any issues.

What trailer do y'all recommend for a Pelican/Bass Hunter style boat if interstate travel is required?  I see the Northern Tool 5x8 and then there are Jet Ski/PWC trailers.  I'd need to trailer to be highway speed rated as I plan to travel with the boat.

For higher speed just make sure you don't get small rims and tires. I have a small trailer that I built and put 8 inch rims I regret it and wish I would've just bought 12 inch. I can still drive 70mph with no problems
