Snap swivel with crankbaits

Featured Replies

I dont like using a snap but i do because i dont want to retie. Doesnt seem to hinder the movement when testing under the surface Theres also just the snaps but i worry it breaking on a good fish without the ball bearing.  but i mostly fish smallies. How do some of you fish crankbaits?

Always with a snap.  I started doing a Experiment this spring  to see if taking the split ring off while using a snap would yield better results.  I caught just as many fish with split ring left on while using the snap as leaving the split off while using the snap.  It seemed to not matter either way with my cranks or jerk baits while, using a snap.

It takes 20 seconds to tie a knot or less. I don’t use snaps.

I don’t use them when I’m crankbait fishing.

But the use of them might help with line twist. Might.

Crankbait fishing is hard on your line, but in my case I’m always replacing line prematurely to eliminate twist and abrasions.

I always use snaps only no swivel. In most cases I attach it to the split ring. I use 30-60 lb rated welded hyper wire. Never had a failure. The leader breaks off or the drag slips before the snap is compromised.

i need some snaps for a wake bait that everyone on the internet says it would be a benefit.

which snap are we loving?

I used a lot of crankbaits when I walleye fished more.  We'd troll will all kinds of crank baits and we always used a snap because were constantly changing colors, bill size, etc in order to fine tune our trolling presentation.

I think a snap is probably ok with a crank bait, but I do not use one with a jerkbait.  I think a jerkbait needs to be balanced to maintain that out-of-the-box specific buoyancy.

I always use them for crankbaits for easy lure changes, never had an issue with them. I also like them for when I'm driving home I can remove my bait and hook the snap into my lure clip on the rod. If I'm fishing often I'll leave my reel on that rod and line snapped on the rod so I can head out the door quicker.

Thanks all?? i appreciate all. You guys are very helpful. Last yr i used a snap on 20 lb floro. I might move down to 15 for easier casting. When i used the snap swivel its length was about an inch of steel or metal, i didnt really like the long length so i stuck with just the snap the whole season. Fishing for smallies they liked the perch DT6
