Another thread I posted about a problem with a reel. boxed it up last night for shipping and picked up a Lews Hypermag for a trip this weekend.  Was looking around at both my local tackle shop and bass pro, and I couldnt find a really good glide bait rod.   my secret weapon is 3 1/8 ounce.  checked out st croixs website and the rod I liked was 700 bucks!! jeez.    you guys got any suggestions?  will be stringing it with 20lb braid and a flouro leader, so carbide / ceramic eyes would be nice.

how you feel about the DC 794.5 AR  less rod but cork and that 1 - 3.5 range is really more where I live than the 2-8.

Megabass Valkyrie H+ or the XXH but it has a faster tip. I have thrown up to a 3oz glide bait on the H+ and it worked great. I have used this rod for A-rigs, heavy pitching,  and some big cranks.  

 

I would also rethink the 20b braid.  The tie in with a heavy bait would be a issue for me. I would either go 19lb or 22lb Sunline Defier Armilo or 50lb braid to 20lb leader.

Cork handle then IROD IQ783, 7”8”, Swim Jr, 2-4 oz fast/mod

is light weight high quality rod.

If your bait is 3 1/8 oz you want a rod that is 2-8 oz. Honestly Dobyns weight range is on the light side and you don't want to max it out anyway.

Thanks for the input. fished all my life but never really serious about the gear until now.  Amazing you get older and a little money and all of a sudden you want all the best things. LOL

 

Not absolute rod ratings with various swimbaits.

Top hook soft plastic swimbaits like Huddleston Deluxe 68 for example add the rod ratings and divide by 2 to achieve for nominal power and ideal lure weight.

Hard jointed swimbaits and glides with treble hooks is more like selecting a rod for crankbaits, need the power to launch heavier lures but also need a more fast-moderate power to keep the bass hooked. 

The IROD I recommended is ideal for glides to 3 1/2 oz.

I don't recommend that 20lb braid, it's really thin. That's spinning rod or BFS territory. Try a tight 8-carrier braid like 40lb fins sling braid or vicious no-fade. I'd hate to see your glide go sailing off into the sunset.
