biggin
Hi, Disgruntled now about catching some bass, early mid april, but almost died out the last few weeks of May. Caught *** pound bass the 10th. Between moss that tops the water cogging line to pass through bail and snags galore, texas rigs help but not much. Today I tried a top popper, a half ounce crank bait and a silver spoon, the spoon picked up all kinds of crap. Early Mid April Senkos texas rig and wakey rig and trick worm on a ned and shakey head did it for me for the most part, but dies out the last few weeks. Does it vary spawning wise, or does it depend on the area in regards to food source? Maybe it's my finesse isn't good enough. I have an app of teenagers catching some nice bass once in awhile, I caught a 4 and a half pound one
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Share Posted May 22, 2023 That can't be answered until we know where you are fishing location wise, and what the temps of the water are. There is going to be outliers and stragglers that spawn well past the vast majority of them, but those aren't worth focusing on. Down here in central Alabama, these fish are done spawning, and have been for a few weeks now. Once the fish finish spawning they get in a very funky mood for a week or two while recovering from the hard process of spawning. When this is over though they feed heavy. Some fish will stay shallow, while many more will move offshore to deeper summer time haunts.
Super User WRB Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Share Posted May 22, 2023 Spawn cycle depends on lots of factors, your regional area, water temperatures etc. If the aquatic growth is reaching the surface and you don’t see any bass beds but do see colonies of small Bluegill beds the major bass spawn is over. Tom since mid April on a lake and a creek I fish at a point off the lake I see bluegills galore. I bank fish and don't boat fish.
Super User gimruis Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Share Posted May 22, 2023 No spawning here yet in the north. I do believe that it will occur soon though, maybe even this week, as smaller lakes in the southern part of the state have reached the appropriate temp. Bigger lakes and further to the north, not yet. It was only 49 degrees last Thursday on a big lake about 90 miles north of the Twin Cities when I was out there.
