Good price for used 4 stroke

Featured Replies

I have a 99 BassCat with a 2000 150 Optimax. Completely rebuilt in 2019.  Runs great.   I’ve been considering a used 4 stroke as a trade.  What’s a good price for a used Mercury 150 4 stroke.  Looked at a 2021 Merc 150L  for $13,500.

Also, anything I need to look out for?

Why ??

Long story.  But mainly, the mechanics around here are having a hard time finding parts for 2 stroke motors.  Merc isn’t supporting older 2 strokes like they were.  And you can either pour oil or change it.  I’d like to change it.

I have a 98 Bass Tracker 175. I blew the first motor on it. When I went to replace it I checked on a 4 stroke. My boat is rated for 75HP but the dealer said I could only go to a 60HP due to the increased weight. Weight factor is something you need to find out about for your boat. I can't help you with the price.

Finding parts for anything sucks. I'm in the parts business (hvac) and we have still not recovered from the covid inventory shortage. My guess is this will continue to affect us for another 1-2 years.

My question is, you have a 2 stroke motor, what parts can you not find? 4 stroke motors have a lot more parts than 2 strokes.
