Rod recs for snakeheads, carp and puppydrum/trout?

Featured Replies

Looking for a 7' medium-heavy/fast spinning rod to pair with a 3000 - 4000 reel to be used for snakeheads, carp and occasionally puppydrum/trout? I fish from a kayak. Budget is $150 and under. I have some heavier spinning rods but they have large butts not designed for casting/retrieving. Any suggestions?

That seems like a very broad, and potentially difficult spectrum of fish to fish for with one rod given that trout are most often fished for with very light rods and small tackle, and carp are beasts that need pretty stout gear.

I usually just go with the Penn Battle combos nowadays.

And like someone else said, I wouldn't go medium heavy for trout or redfish, but I also wouldn't go with a light rod for trout (assuming you're talking salt).
